The aim is not only to build a built environment to live in, but also a space in society from the learning of a trade that will allow them to get over their precarious social position.
The necessity of dwelling for the orphan girls is the goal of the NGO G.M.T.Sansthan. In India, orphan girls are repudiated by society because they have no dowry and, as a consequence, they cannot get married. The aim is not only to build a built environment to live in, but also a space in society from the learning of a trade that will allow them to get over their precarious social position. The spatial and structural simplicity, the local resources and the economy lead the design. We proposed two open spaces and a spine of servant spaces related to them: the ground floor meets the city and houses the crafts workshop, and the upper floor houses all the daily activities in the orphanage.
